For 18 years, Rise Against have steadfastly pointed in the politically correct direction, using their international punk platform to champion social justice. The band grew up during the administration of George W. Bush and released albums spanning three US presidencies. However, today's political climate has forced Rise Against to reconsider the way they've done things and how they define themselves.
"In many ways, a Rise Against show is a safe bet for our fans," says McIlrath. “But I realized that I don't just want to provide comfort zones; I want to create a threatening scenario in which neither misogyny nor xenophobia have room. I want to create environments where these impulses just can't get any air and suffocate them; they just die."
