Stage consecration festival play in three acts, in German, with Hungarian and English surtitles
In Parsifal, his last musical drama, Wagner embeds fear of the temptations of the world and sinful desires in a story of redemption. The work is indeed more of a festival for the stage than an opera. Many viewers - perhaps out of their own apprehension - criticized Wagner, who wrote both the libretto and the music, for what might be called the virtue and the remarkable complexity of the piece, namely the personal tone with which he portrayed a religious subject, that combined notions of the sacred with profane love. The visual world of this new production, directed by Artistic Director András Almási-Tóth, will be designed by Sebastian Hannak, who is also behind the look of Porgy and Bess and The Fairy Queen.
