Easter with Mascagni

Concert performances with Hungarian and English surtitles

Cavalleria rusticana
The world literally went mad for this one-act play by Pietro Mascagni as he burst onto the opera scene with his daring work that opened new frontiers for the genre and hundreds of others tried to imitate. It was his greatest achievement. In one of the prime examples of verismo, Mascagni's protagonists are ordinary people who become victims of their own unbridled passions.
Captivating and sensual music with gripping dramatic tension. Love, jealousy - and revenge.

Messa di Gloria
Anyone who has seen Mascagni's famous one-act play Cavalleria rusticana will never forget the Easter hymn. The tragic Easter story fits perfectly with the Messa di Gloria, which exudes resurrection euphoria but is above all a southern Italian mass of innocent faith. It is also not insignificant that Mascagni himself rehearsed and conducted his opera in Budapest and that it was here that it became a world sensation.
