Musical by Frederick Loewe, Alan Jay Lerner
In German with English surtitles
This classic about English class society, the power of language and the power struggle between the sexes is a true cult performance: The musical tells how the phonetics professor Dr. Higgins transformed flower seller Eliza Doolittle into a socialite. The key to this somewhat questionable social advancement? The language! With tough speech training, Eliza is supposed to shed her “lower” origins and become a new creature designed by Higgins. It will then be proudly presented at a ball. But does Higgins also manipulate Eliza's feelings with language? And can you slip into a different social class like you would into a new piece of clothing? The clever lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and the hit potential of the music by Frederick Loewe with songs like “It's green so green” or “I would have danced this night” give the plot double ground, humor and the important dose of wink.
Ruth Brauer-Kvam is taking on the new production of this musical classic. With a great ensemble, she takes a new look at beloved conventions and lets My Fair Lady shine in its old, new glory!
