Opera for the whole family by Jacques Offenbach
In German with German surtitles
Although Prince Caprice has just returned from a trip around the world, he is tormented by wanderlust. He doesn't like the fact that he should take over the affairs of state from his father, King Flott. Rather, he asks himself: "Is there no plan(et) B?" When the moon rises in the night sky, Caprice suddenly knows where his longing is taking him... He quickly puts his vision into practice and flies together with König Flott and the scholar microscope to the moon. It quickly becomes clear: different planets, different customs. When Caprice falls in love with the moon princess Fantasia, the two feel the consequences, because on the moon love is a disease! Luckily, the people of Earth packed temptingly tasty apples for provisions...
Traveling to the moon is one of mankind's greatest dreams. Jacques Offenbach turned it into a “science fiction opera” with enchanting music. In a production created for the whole family by the French director and costume designer Laurent Pelly, this work will be shown for the first time at the Vienna Volksoper. "Set the stage free!" is the motto for the Junge Volksoper, because the stars of this production are the children's choir and the youth choir as well as the opera studio - i.e. the youngest members of our ensemble!
