Mass in D minor - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Mass in D minor

Listen to Anton Bruckner's Mass in D minor and his Locus Iste on his 200th birthday in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

Bruckner's 1st Mass is often referred to as his first real masterpiece and key work, which made him one of the few composers who further developed the symphony after Beethoven and Schubert and had a decisive influence on musical creation in the 20th century. With this composition Bruckner achieved a breakthrough; the performance was a huge success with both critics and audiences. A laudatory review in the Linzer Zeitung described Bruckner's potential as a symphonic composer and placed the D minor Mass in the highest level of church music.

Under the direction of Erasmus Baumgartner, deputy artistic director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, the masterpiece will be performed as part of the Sing Mit! Choir festivals were intensively developed in several workshops by choristers from all over the world. The crowning conclusion is the performance with well-known soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
