Ballet: Kafka: The Trial
In the darkness of sleep, a door opens and a woman dressed in sheets of paper enters, symbolizing the fate and trial that will rage against the protagonist...
This is the beginning of The Trial, a ballet by the esteemed Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, loosely inspired by Franz Kafka's 1914 literary masterpiece of the same name - its fascinating language, traumatizing plot and still valid message.
The modern production, full of dramatic twists, tells the story of Josef K., who wakes up on his 30th birthday to find three policemen next to his bed who want to arrest him for reasons he does not understand. The disoriented and disbelieving protagonist is subsequently embroiled in a judicial machine that draws him into a maelstrom of strange events.
