In 1745, Louis XV chose the comedy about an ugly nymph who is tricked into believing that Jupiter, king of the gods, has fallen in love with her, as one of three operas for the celebrations of his son's wedding to the Infanta Maria Teresa of Spain. Since the bride was reportedly not a beauty, we can speculate whether the choice of Rameau's opera was a mischievous prank on the part of the monarch - if indeed it was, it was appropriate (and inappropriate) for other reasons as well. Platée not only makes fun of a foolish, clumsy imp, but also mocks the "sacred" social institution of marriage: the pathologically jealous wives and the shy but resourceful husbands who, despite being Olympian gods, are faced with various problems in their relationships...

The production was taken over by the directing duo SKUTR, who were inspired by the fact that the world premiere of Rameau's Platée took place at a wedding, as well as by the allegorical prologue of the opera, in which wine becomes a comedy...
