How terrible must life be if you can't laugh? Sergei Prokofiev's opera “The Love of Three Oranges” is about a king who wants to help his sick son. For the potential heir to the throne there is only one remedy to gain new vitality: laughter. While the doctors are trying their luck, a fight begins between Truffaldino and Fata Morgana, with the latter having an unfortunate fall. Her misfortune brings the prince his long-awaited laugh, but she soon places a curse on him: he will fall in love with three oranges. The prince and Truffaldino immediately set off on an adventurous journey that will take them to a desert - a ride that can be understood as a balancing act between fantasy and reality, parodic-grotesque and tragic at the same time.
