Ballet: The Nutcracker - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Ballet: The Nutcracker
Ballet in two acts
Premiered November 26, 2011
Music by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky
Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's »Nutcracker« – premiered in St. Petersburg in 1892 – is as much a part of Christmas at the Semperoper as the Dresden Stollen or the famous Striezelmarkt. In their interpretation, Aaron S. Watkin and Jason Beechey draw on the story by E. T. A. Hoffmann and create a fairy tale based on classical ballet in the context of a Dresden Christmas: On Christmas Eve, Marie is given a nutcracker, which she immediately takes to her heart. Soon, however, there is danger from a warlike swarm of mice. It's as if the Nutcracker were coming to life: He's confronting the enemy army. With her new protégé, the girl embarks on a journey through a land of sweet dreams - and into adulthood.
