Semperoper Dresden

The Dresden Semperoper is not only an architectural monument, it is above all a venue and provides a festive setting for performances of the opera, state orchestra, ballet and young scene. At the same time, it has become a symbol of this city and a worldwide epitome of important opera art.

The history of opera in Dresden goes back to the opening of the first opera house in 1667. Dresden rose to become the European opera metropolis under the court conductor Johann Adolph Hasse.
