Where is it, the “best of all possible worlds”? Candide, who grows up with the Baron's children in tranquil Westphalia, is thrown out of the castle because of his love for Cunegonde. An adventurous journey begins for the naive young man, which takes him around the globe from one absurd catastrophe to the next.

Based on Voltaire's satire "Candide ou l'optimisme", Leonard Bernstein creates a masterpiece of modern entertainment theater about the craziness of this world. In a funny and lively mix of opera, musical and revue, he not only parodies traditional dance forms such as gavotte, mazurka, polka or waltz, but also sprinkles in one or two opera quotes with a wink.

Another highlight of this concert version are the witty and humorous intertexts by Loriot, spoken by Jan Josef Liefers, among others. known as the opera-loving forensic pathologist in Tatort, who returns to his hometown for this production. A wonderfully amusing and absurd evening, brilliantly orchestrated and full of humor and subtlety!
