Falstaff - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Falstaff
Comic opera in three acts, in Italian, with Hungarian, English and Italian subtitles
Performance time: 3 hours 15 minutes, with 2 intermissions.
“There is only one way to end your career more magnificently than with Otello, and that is to end it with Falstaff!” This is what Verdi said of his librettist and good friend Arrigo Boito. Although the aged master had not tried his hand at comedy since the ugly failure of Un giorno di regno in 1840, the dry spell ended fifty years later:
Sir John Falstaff, the fat and swashbuckling knight invented by Shakespeare, the composer's favorite author, was to be his second comic opera, as well as his last – and perhaps most brilliant – work. Conceived by world-famous director Arnaud Bernard, this comedy returns to the stage of the Budapest Opera House with a parade of stars in its cast!
Subject to change.
