Faust - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Faust
Opera in five acts, in French with Hungarian, English and French subtitles
Duration: 3 hours 40 minutes, 2 intermissions
Gounod's French grand opéra was an indispensable part of the repertoire of every self-respecting opera company and remains one of the most frequently performed operas today. The composer's aim was not an operatic adaptation of Goethe's masterpiece. From the libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré emerged a perfumed and smoky drama, spiced with elements of romance and horror as well as Gothic motifs: a story of romance, the supernatural, religion and the eternal struggle against satanic forces.
