Nils Strunk and Lukas Schrenk after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Emanuel Schikaneder

In 1791, the year he died, Mozart, who was heavily in debt, together with his friend Schikaneder, completed the story of two lovers who find each other in the midst of a battle between dark forces and thus reveal the utopia of a kingdom of reason and humanity in which colorful birds also have their place.
The Magic Flute, which is now on the repertoire of almost every major opera house in the world, had its world premiere in a theater in the suburbs of Vienna.

232 years later, a traveling troupe brings their very own version of the opera to the stage. The »Kratky-Baschik-Zaubertheater« is broke and urgently needs the perfect entertainment show. To do this, the troupe is free to use any means: the sacred composition is rearranged, Mozart's motifs are transformed into songs in a wide variety of styles and the rewritten libretto is shared by only 6 players, each of whom has to take on several roles.
In a sunken world of vaudeville, variety shows and gloomy Prater street theater, what is perhaps the most daring reinterpretation of what is perhaps the most famous opera in the world is being created.
