National Theater Orchestra
National Theater Choir
Ballet of the National Theater Opera
Antonín Dvořák's two most successful operas, Teufelskäthe and Rusalka, are based on fairytale motifs. The combination of folk and humor with lyrical and imaginative elements is one of the typical (and still very popular) features of Czech dramaturgy. Dvořák created a masterful patchwork of contrasting scenes – folksy, airy, devilishly fervent and courtly noble.
Thanks to the ingenious invention of musical motifs and orchestral instruments, Die Teufelskäthe is a thoroughly original work from beginning to end, surpassing Dvořák's earlier operas in many respects.
The exquisite stage designs and costumes by Adolf Born bear the signature of this original and popular artist.
