Sonderkonzert am 475. Gründungstag der Sächsischen Staatskapelle Dresden
GLOSS AND SOUND
If the history of the Staatskapelle in the 19th and 20th centuries had to be reduced to three composers, no one would be able to ignore this trio. Weber's »Jubilee Overture« was first heard in 1818 – in honor of King Friedrich August I, who had come to the throne as Elector half a century earlier. 27 years later, Wagner, Weber's most famous successor, conducted his »Tannhäuser« in Dresden. And even if Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is not one of the works that were premiered in Dresden, the tone poem was heard here for the first time four months after the premiere on April 2, 1897. The audience was enthusiastic: Conductor Ernst von Schuch was summoned four times.
