The Creation in St. Stephen's Cathedral - Schedule, Program & Tickets
The Creation in St. Stephen's Cathedral
Listen to Joseph Haydn's The Creation, one of the great musical wonders of Viennese classical music.
The oratorio, written between 1796 and 1798, deals with the creation of the world as explained in Genesis, with the praise of God as its central theme. Joseph Haydn, who was already over sixty years old at the time, was very inspired by this theme. However, working on this work turned out to be particularly arduous for him and pushed the composer to the limits of his physical and artistic strength.
Get a sound impression of the oratorio for yourself with the Vienna Cathedral Choir and Vienna Cathedral Orchestra under the direction of Cathedral Kapellmeister Markus Landerer, and well-known soloists, in the place where Haydn himself sang for nine years as a choirboy and later married his wife Aloysia - St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
