Am Ende Licht - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Am Ende Licht

A woman is standing in front of the liquor shelf in the supermarket and collapses. The new play by British playwright Simon Stephens begins with her account of the exact moment of her death. Programmatically, the end and the beginning coincide here, because Stephens' portrait of a family tells of farewells and new beginnings in a time of confusion and uncertainty. Bernard, husband of the late Christine, meets two women in a hotel for casual sex. One of the daughters, Jess, wakes up next to a stranger after a night out together. The other daughter, Ashe, is a single parent and finally breaks up with her ex-boyfriend Joe, a junkie, after a fight. And Steven, the youngest of the siblings, meets his lover Andy, a meeting overshadowed by his relationship anxieties. The dead mother is present in all these scenes. Nothing is glossed over in this piece, all the abysses that we know from other pieces with a family at the center are named - but something is different about this piece: the warmth, the calmness, the hope and in the end - the prospect of reconciliation , on the light.
