FROM PROMETHEUS TO APOLLO
Schumann and Dresden - this is not a love story. It is true that around a third of Robert Schumann's oeuvre was created between 1844 and 1850, when the artist couple lived on the Elbe. Nevertheless, it was not until 1858 that the Royal Saxon Musical Orchestra posthumously put one of his symphonies on the program for the first time. Even then, Carl Gottlieb Reißiger combined the passionate first, which Schumann wrote in just four days in 1841, inspired by Schubert's Greater, with Beethoven's »The Creatures of Prometheus«.

The Russian Igor Stravinsky, on the other hand, traveled the world as a conductor on his own behalf after emigrating from his homeland: in 1929 he also took the podium in the chapel.

Introduction to the concert 45 minutes before the start in the opera cellar of the Semperoper.
